Helmholtz Cage

This is a preliminary design for a 18 cu. in. Helmholtz cage. A Helmholtz cage is a three-axis version of a Helmholtz coil, with square coils rather than round coils.

This design uses only non-ferromagnetic material. The outer supports are constructed from aluminum t-slot.

Here is the outer support with the coils added in. Each coil pair is color-coded.

Here, you can see how the outermost pair of coils are attached to the outer support. The coils are constructed of aluminum u-channel, which has been bent to a desired radius.

This is a cutaway view of the brackets that attach the middle and inner coils pairs to the outer frame.
